Nicole and Michael Colovos of Helmut Lang have always been known to find inspiration in the most unlikely of places. For their pre-fall 2012 line, their inspiration actually came from pictures they have of spider webs – spider webs from drug-induced spiders. Yes, you heard correctly. Spiders on different drugs create different kinds of webs – and caffeine is what the two designers settled on. Now you can see the web-like designs on their skinny jeans, tops, and in the form of burnout motifs on their sweaters. More color is evident than usual in the line as well – boasting bold greens and white patterns, a nice pairing for a color palette that’s usually neutral. Signature Helmut Lang still reigns in the mix – sharp shouldered blazers and perfect leather jackets – the perfect way to usher us into fall.
